Poking Around the Pergamon

If you are traveling to Berlin for the first time, be sure to include this incredible institution on your tour. The Pergamon Museum is hands down one of the most impressive museums I have ever been to. Why?
Well, there are several reasons, not the least of which are its extensive Islamic art collection and the sheer enormity of several of the exhibits. The Ishtar Gate, completely reconstructed buildings and temples . . . nearly unbelievable, really.

My husband and I visited several years ago while staying with a friend in Germany. We spent the whole day, and had to rush through the last third or so of the exhibits. If you like antiquities from the Middle East and are in love with Islamic art, this museum is definitely for you.
Word to the wise? Bring your walking shoes and some bottled water. You’ll be there a while.
