While it’s nice to have the contact information for a future visit or online travel review, this tip is more about making things more convenient for you in the developing world.

Many of the taxi / tuk-tuk / camel drivers in the world do not read or speak the native language of their country’s tourists.

When trying to get home after a night on the town, this little detail can impact you dramatically. Grab a copy of the hotel’s business card before you leave. If it doesn’t have one side written in the local language, ask the desk clerk to write down the contact and location information in the language necessary. If there is not a business card available, snag a quick digital picture of the hotel’s front sign and any nearby street signs on your cell phone or camera. At two o’clock in the morning, this can save you a ton of aggravation.
