Adjusting to the altitude when you first arrive at the gateway to the Sacred Valley can be a challenge. Our advice? Pace yourself.

Six a.m. Up early this morning to catch our second Aero Condor flight at 9:00. It actually boarded and departed early . . . we love this airline! Should be grounded and settled in Cuzco before noon. More then . . .

Cuzco, Noonish: Settled in to a charming Colonial hotel with hot water, cable, phone and continental breakfast for around 20 USD per night.

We also have our city tour booked for tomorrow afternoon, a 2-day excursion set for Machu Picchu on Tuesday / Wednesday, and will be back here for the sacred valley on Thursday. Heading off to grab lunch, walk around Cuzco and acclimatize.

Later on . . . apparently, this high altitude acclimating business is not to be taken lightly. We are both feeling light headed, more than a little inebriated, and our lungs are on fire from just walking across the street. We tried an internet cafe tonight thinking we would do a ton of catching up on the blog. After taking nearly an hour to type a simple paragraph to some colleagues (my fine motor skills and mental acuity were shot), I decided I would wait until I had finished adjusting. David said he felt the same way. We are almost at 11,000 feet, the highest either of us have ever been. Hopefully, tomorrow will see each of us more functional.
