South American Travel Lessons:

Market shot in the Sacred Valley

It’s been awhile since we’ve done a hard core road trip. A couple of lessons we needed to relearn?

Lesson Number One- Always bring your own toilet paper. We really should have remembered this. However, it’s our first trip to South America, and everywhere else we’ve traveled where T.P. is not prevalent, there’s usually a bidet, hose, bucket with ladle . . . something! Not so here, at least not that we’ve noticed. We’ll keep you posted.

Lesson Number Two- While people who speak Spanish will find that it basically gets them by in Italy, the same is not necessarily true in reverse. Having limited Italian skills has not been nearly as useful as we’d hoped. This may be different in places like Chile or Argentina, where there is a stronger Italian presence. Since we’re not going anywhere near those countries on this trip, we’ll need to test that theory at another time. In the meantime, we continue to march forward with our rudimentary Spanish and are still enjoying ourselves immensely.

I’m sure there will be more lessons we are reminded of as the trip progresses. We’ll keep you posted.
