After overnighting in Tumbes, we found out there was a small local airport with an airline we had not found online.

Aero Condor. They offer flights from Tumbes to Lima for roughly 100 U.S. dollars per person. That plus the previous day’s bus fare combined to shave almost 80% off the Guayaquil to Lima air fare and several days off the travel time by bus to Lima. Aero Condor has a web site if you want to try this hybrid approach  yourself. http://www.aerocondor.com.pe . We arrived in Lima way ahead of schedule, and nearly at the same time the ultra long bus riders did. We had plenty of time to get to our hotel, relax and find a great restaurant.
