Lots of problem-solving and information checking with no time left for internet before catching the last bus out to Puerto Lopez from Guayaquil. How did the day progress from there?
From about 1:30 – 6:15 pm we rode the local bus through every tiny town, stopping all the way. While 18 hours of this could get annoying really quickly, we enjoyed seeing the country side and the real life of the people of Ecuador from all economic levels. It has been a while since either David or I have had the opportunity to integrate a bit with another culture and while it was loud, crowded, and more than a little smelly, we both enjoyed the journey. After arriving in Puerto Lopez, we had to wait only 8 minutes for the next local bus to Ayampe, a sleepier beach town with rustic cabanas and cabin tents, nature / adventure tours and plenty of sand and sun.
There was a slight snag during check-in because the gentleman working the desk didnīt have our reservation (even though we listened to Monica at Dream Kapture make the call). Fortunately, they had an open cabin tent for the evening that we could use until transferring to our reserved beach front cabana the next day. More on that later.
