A bit of a late start due to some thick morning fog, but we’ve successfully navigated our way through Dallas and are on our way to Tennessee by way of Northeast Texas and Arkansas.
For the second morning in a row, we’ve indulged in the seasonal Christmas coffees at Starbucks. Between that and Subway we’re making it through this trip low cal and alert.
Cruising along I-30 East, David was just reflecting on last night’s hilarity between our dog Maggie and our friend’s cat. Jenny thought full doggie interaction during the holidays would be too much on the cat’s nerves, so she put the kitty in the master bedroom and shut the door. End of story right? Wrong. When the cat sensed Maggie sniffing along the bottom of the door, she shot both paws out with a meow in greeting. That did it. The dog was temporarily airborne, after which she hit the ground prone for a round of reciprocal paw swatting which lasted for quite some time. The cat was obviously enjoying it as well, because she was rolling around on the other side with paws coming out upside down, right-side down and sideways. Really hilarious.
Apparently, the playfulness has stuck with the Magster, because we had a near escape scene at the gas station outside of Dallas this morning. She saw a couple of poodles in the car next to us, and that was all it took. I made a dive for one open door with a hot Starbucks in each hand, and David dove for the other open exit loaded with doggie meds and a map. Between the two of us, and a fair amount of scolding, we reigned her in.
It’s hard to stay mad at them when we know they’re just sick of spending so many hours a day in the car. But we also need to keep them safe. A few more rest area stops for doggie romping are in order today, we think.
10:00 p.m. – Pulled off the road after 13 hours on the road, got the dogs settled, and went out to Ruby Tuesday to unwind. Lots of space in the room to unwind for the dogs. We left them watching Animal Planet on cable. More on day four.

Myscha, I love reading your adventures! I hope you and David are enjoying your new freedom and adventures. It sounded like Maggie was liking it quite a lot!
