Our Current Packing List (A Work in Progress)

Well, as promised, here is the list thus far. David’s clothing choices are obviously different from mine . . . conversion pants, swimming trunks / shorts combo, etc. There are also some items I’m toying with changing to save even more room, like switching to a black tankini in order to reduce from four items (sports bra, tank top, underwear and one-piece suit) down to one two-piece swim suit.

We’ll try to update this list as we get even closer, to give as accurate a picture as possible on how we accomplished this (I know several of you have asked).

  • mini sewing kit
  • travel umbrella
  • mini-clothes line
  • round rubber sink stopper
  • small nail / laundry brush (multipurpose)
  • safety pins
  • one multipurpose bra
  • two pairs quick-dry underwear
  • two pairs quick-dry travel socks
  • one sarong (towel, beach blanket, pool cover-up, curtain, sheet, skirt, etc.)
  • one pair leggings
  • one pair travel pants
  • one long skirt
  • one pair shorts
  • travel silverware on a ring (easily clips to loops in your pack with a caribiner)
  • small hanging toiletry storage bag
  • toothbrush
  • razor
  • comb / pick
  • barrette / ponytail holder / hair stick / bobby pins
  • shampoo

  • pen
  • ID (passport, driver’s license, etc.)
  • phone
  • mini mirror
  • security items (money belt, bra safe, neck pouch, waist security pouch, etc.)
  • multi-purpose tool (David calls this his McGiver tool, it does practically everything.)
  • digital camera / DVD recorder
  • day pack
  • travel padlock with key (s)
  • one bathing suit (one piece tanks suit or a tankini in a coordinating wardrobe color)
  • student ID
  • guide book(s)
  • one long-sleeved sweater
  • one T-shirt
  • one fleece pullover
  • one tank top
  • portable keyboard
  • one jean jacket (or other jacket)
  • stain removal pads
  • extra ziplocks for damp laundry, etc.
  • mini flashlight
  • solar calculator (optional)
  • eyeglass repair kit
  • vitamins
  • dental floss
  • watch
  • space bags
  • gloves / hat
  • corkscrew (we own a few dozen now, because we’ve previously forgotten one)
  • spare toilet paper / baby wipes
  • silk sleep sack / travel sheets (They take up less luggage space.)
  • radiator key (We are still looking for a universal one, and hoping for an attachment to David’s multipurpose “McGiver” tool.)
  • carrot peeler (I bought a small, slim stainless steel one that easily hooks onto the metal ring where I keep the travel silverware. There’s no hole in the corkscrew, but I’m looking for a drill option so we can keep that there too.)

I’ll be running this by David to see if he’s added anything else. Right now, we are each down to one backpack and a smaller day-pack, and are both on a mission to stay at that level.

This seems excessive for my taste. Solar calculator? Nail buffer? Mini sewing kit? Couldn’t a lot of this stuff be found in country if it was needed? I prefer to travel with only a backpack when possible and all this wouldn’t fit.

    Hi Daniel,

Believe it or not, it all fit just fine with room to spare. That being said, we now pass on the solar calculator. Happy traveling!
